Pending could mean a few things. 1.) A person has begun a profile for them 2.) Has been inactive in the last week. or 3.) They are not that great with the character and have been warned multiple times. In a case of 2 or 3, you can make a profile for them. You are not guaranteed that certain charrie, though.
Taken simply don't apply for these.
Reserved is where one has asked one of the staffers to hold on to a character, because of some reason. The name will be bolded and that member has one day to at the least start on their app.
**note: checking the accepted canon bin will not kill you either.
